Ukraine, 10 thousand kilos of aid collected by the Florentine Misericordie on the Savino Del Bene truck

Yesterday a Savino Del Bene’s truck arrived in Poland, on the border with Ukraine, loaded with 10 thousand kilos of benefit for the Ukrainian populations collected by Misericordie. The cargo contained 32 pallets of various kinds of humanitarian aid: non-perishable food, medicines, medical devices and hygiene stuff.

The materials were collected by the individual Misericordie and transported to Florence by the territorial coordinators in the logistic center managed by the Regional Federation of the Misericordie of Tuscany and by the Coordination of the Misericordie of the Florentine Area in the spaces (about 800 square meters) made available by Mercafir, before being loaded onto the truck for transport to Ukraine.

“Our commitment to support the Ukrainian population, hit by this tragedy, continues and it is strengthened, in the spirit of solidarity, assistance and mutual aid that has always characterized voluntary associations. Ours is a small contribution, but peace is also built through the small gestures of solidarity, which can trigger a virtuous chain of generosity “,  Andrea Ceccherini, president of the Coordination of Misericordie of the Florentine Area, declared.

“Social responsibility is an element deeply rooted in Savino Del Bene’s identity and strategy, which is confirmed by our commitment to the community in which we operates. Faced with a humanitarian tragedy, such as the one that is taking place in Ukraine, we could not to remain unmoved. Supporting people is in our DNA: every year the company collects food and primary goods to be sent to Los Quinchos, a charity in Nicaragua that provides hospitality to abandoned and abused children”, Paolo Nocentini, President of Savino Del Bene, said.

It was the third shipment of aid to the Ukrainian populations collected by the Misericordie in Tuscany. The first trip – last March 3 – was carried out with 8 vehicles and 24 quintals of goods and on their return the volunteers brought 26 Ukrainian refugee mothers and children to Italy. The second convoy – a mobile column of 12 vehicles and two trucks – left on 11 March with one hundred pallets of medicine and food and had brought 30 refugees back.

Ukraine Russia Crisis Updates

Savino Del Bene is constantly monitoring the Ukraine crisis and the daily updates from the whole world.

The global transport and logistics industry is adapting to the ever-changing market conditions and constant uncertainty.

It is Savino Del Bene’s top priority to ensure that customer needs are met, whilst evaluating and analyzing the market situation to ensure that such difficulties are mitigated as much as possible.

Savino Del Bene suspended all shipments to Ukraine and Russia, until further notice, with the exception of medicines, humanitarian aid and food.

Our worldwide network is managing daily the impacts on the supply chains of the conflict in Ukraine and the subsequent legal sanctions against Russia and Belarus.

Ocean Freight:

  • Many of the largest container lines have decided to suspend bookings to and from both Ukraine and Russia.
  • The Black Sea ports are mostly being removed from port rotation by most major carrier lines
  • The events in Ukraine brought a further increase in Oil prices beyond what we observed recently. We foresee a big impact for both Air Freight Fuel Surcharges (shorter-term) and Ocean BAF (mid-term).

Air Freight: is heavily impacted.

  • The airspace over Ukraine is closed. While many Air freight companies are not entitled to fly over the Russian territories.
  • Many airlines companies introduced the War Risk surcharges
  • Carriers as Volga Dnepr and AirBridge are forbidden to fly in Europe, resulting in a cutting capacity in an already difficult market situation.
  • Nippon Cargo reactivated flights with Italy by shifting the route to Alaska
  • Fuel surcharges are rising more and more every day.
  • The consequences are (source Seabury):
  • 17% share of global air freight trade directly impacted > 1.7 Mio tons Europe to North Asia and 2.5 Mio tons North Asia to Europe
  • 20% Drop in direct air freight capacity between Europe and North-East Asia (Weekend of Feb 26 vs Weekend of Feb 19)
  • 2 hours additional flight time between Europe and North-East Asia

Rail Freight: currently, the rail freight service is still running and transport via the Silk Road is possible.

Alongside, Savino Del Bene is evaluating alternatives to support our clients for any future happenings.

In these extraordinary circumstances, we work daily to create capacity in the air freight market with flight operations, when needed, and to leverage our relationships with the ocean carriers to find short-term capacity for your cargo.

Savino Del Bene encourages all customers impacted by this situation to reach out to our Team, in order to find a tailored logistics solution.

Savino Del Bene is ready to support Italian Import – Export with new charter connection between Italy and US

Savino Del Bene, Italian leader in the international shipments and first freight forwarder on the Italy – USA airfreight trade lane, is once again ready to support the export of Made in Italy to the US and import to Italy, thanks to the introduction of new weekly charter services. Starting from October 24th the charter flight will connect Milan MXP to NY JFK, during the most dynamic period of the year.

The decrease of passenger flight, the cut of cargo flights by carriers, in addition to the highly congested maritime transport, turned into a lack of airfreight capacity,  increasing the pressure of the international freight transport and putting in serious difficulty the supply chain of the manufacturing companies.

In this context, Savino Del Bene supports the export and import trade between Italy and the US during the peak season, thanks to the introduction of new weekly charter flight services from/to Milan MXP to/from NY JFK starting from October 24th, 2021.

With this initiative, Savino Del Bene proves to be once again, the reliable partner capable to respond to the customers’ business needs, and is committed to finding concrete solutions to ensure the fluidity of the trade between Italy and the United States.
